2012

You can’t help but be a little contemplative on New Year’s Eve, can you?

So when Cas over at Mummy Never Sleeps revealed she’d done her favourite posts of 2012, I wondered why I hadn’t thought of that.

After all, my blogging mojo has been lacking over the festive season. (Think I’m still on a sugar high from too many Quality Street).

So ladies and gentlemen, here’s the stuff I’ve loved writing in the last year.

Go on, have a read and let me know what you think.

(And if you’ve got a favourite post you’d like me to read, leave a link in the comments below and I’ll happily pop over).

January gave me a chance to write my boys’ birth stories, as bloggers were challenged by Netmums and the TV show One Born Every Minute to share our tales from the labour ward.

I enjoyed telling how Brodie arrived at the time (almost) and date his dad requested.

And although it was horrific at the time, I can laugh now at how my mother-in-law pretty much saw me from my worst angle during Blake’s birth.

At the beginning of February, I found the strength to write about a man I still miss every single day, my father-in-law Keith.

You never know how much someone enhances your life, until they’re gone. Since writing this post, Mr G has since been diagnosed with depression and his mum has gone into counselling. With every birthday, Christmas and anniversary we all feel a huge void.

oldfart

Listography gave me a good laugh in March, when I wrote Five reasons I know I’m an old fart. And sadly, every word is true.

samantha brick

The Samantha Brick saga allowed me to have a good old rant in April, putting my own spin on the story of this woman who was deluded enough to think she didn’t have any female friends because she was slim and attractive. I wrote from the ‘ugly friend’s’ point of view.

brits abroad

A holiday to Ibiza in May inspired me to write about the typical characters you see on holiday in Brits Abroad. This post resulted in a huge boost in readers at Mummy Central, purely because I tagged it with the keywords “big girl in bikini”

dear dad

Continuing to use this blog as my therapy, I wrote in June, to coincide with Father’s Day.

And on a lighter note, while the Olympians were amazing us all at London 2012, I fell on my arse in spectacular fashion at Brodie’s school sports day.

meltdown

In July I got a bit emotional and wrote this.

Things shifted quite a bit after this post, as Elizabeth decided it was time to concentrate on other things and hand Mummy Central over to me.

And I began to realise being a slave to the blog – worrying about stats and fitting in – wasn’t working for me.

My posts since then have been less frequent and I now only work only with PRs if I want to, and feel it is worthwhile to me and/or readers.

cherry bakewell

August saw me cowering in the bathroom with contraband cake, as shame with a cherry on top visited my household.

kate topless mag

Boobs – mainly Kate Middleton’s – were on everyone’s minds in September and I was ranting again, mainly about how such a high-profile woman could expect any privacy when she’s outdoors. Surely our future Queen should have put them away?

malware

October was a horrific month. Mummy Central was hit by malware – not once, but twice. And while Elizabeth slogged hard to clean up and redesign (because it was beyond my talents) I had a bit of a blogging break. It helped get a few things into perspective – but put our friendship under strain.

When we resumed normal service, I wrote this post.

Wed090

Mr G and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary in November, and I enjoyed writing about how we first met – while I was on a date with his friend *hangs head and paints self scarlett*

nativity

In December, Brodie’s nativity play saw me writing about the gender stereotypes which seem to exist at his primary school. And from the comments received, it’s not only a boy vs girl thing in many schools. There seems to be a bias over hair colour too.

So that’s it. Thanks for reading – not just today but any time you might have popped over throughout the year. I’m incredibly grateful.

Have a fabulous Hogmanay, however you celebrate it.

And here’s to 2013 and the new challenges it may bring.

Cheers xxx
